Arrest These Merry Gentlemen

Welcome to the C-MENT Fall 2019 Season!

As most of you know, I’m Betty King and I am the Director of C-MENT! This will be C-MENT’s 55th production and I am so excited to be here! I have had the opportunity to watch some of the children grow in so many ways over the years and I look forward to continue to do so in the years to come. For those of you who are new, I bid you welcome and look forward to getting to know you. I know that this show will be a blessing to all of us involved! A production of this magnitude requires a lot of work and support and prayers from all of us. I pray that God will guide all of us and help us make this a meaningful and spiritual experience of each of our children.

I was so fortunate to have a terrific casting team helping me with the casting this season. Adele Buffington (Music Director) and Leif Proctor (Asst. Director) sat in on the auditions and call backs. You can all be very proud of your children. They had terrific auditions! They were prepared, articulate and fun to watch. As always, casting a show is very difficult. With so many talented children and never enough parts, it becomes an intricate puzzle of juggling everyone around. Adele and I have rewritten parts of the script and added in some roles in order to allow as many children as possible to be spotlighted in an area in which they wished to shine. I pray that your children will be happy with their parts and that you all will support the casting decisions made by the casting team and myself. We certainly have done our best with God’s help.

Your child brought home a folder which included a script, a rehearsal schedule, a CD (one per family) and a pencil. The script is theirs to keep as is the CD. Please help your children to highlight their lines and to start memorizing their lines. Also, the sooner they have their lines memorized, the sooner they will be able to start working on their characters and blocking (movement on stage). Children are to bring their sharpened pencil to each rehearsal with their script so that they may write down their blocking.

Please encourage your children to listen to their CDs daily. It will help the children tremendously in learning the music. Our family found it helpful to listen to the music in the car as we drove around town.

Rehearsal Schedule

Please take a moment to look at the detailed rehearsal schedule with your child and make sure you have recorded all the dates and times in your personal calendars. The schedule is to help each child know what scene and song will be rehearsed on each day. The children should review the required pages/and song prior to coming to rehearsal so as to be better prepared. A child who has his or her lines memorized will be better able to really start acting. Please note that the named leads are called at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays to do blocking. Named leads are the roles that are in the scene scheduled that day.  IMPORTANT: THERE IS NO REHEARSAL THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5!

We will continue to email a newsletter each week to keep you informed about important details. For example, the newsletters will cover props that we need, as well as special costumes and/or accessories your children might need to bring. The newsletters will also be posted on our website ( under the Blogs menu.

Important Reminder

Please pick up your children inside the sanctuary at the end of each rehearsal. I will wait to make sure each child is collected by a parent or older sibling. We hope to eliminate the unnecessary running around and playing tag outside the front of the church while children wait for parents. We trust that our C-MENT cast can be responsible and respectful of others and that they will not disrupt other meetings that are in session. Thank you for your consideration of this request and I know that you will remind your children to wait quietly in the sanctuary for you.

Our first parent meeting was Tuesday, Oct. 1, and we were pleased with the outstanding attendance. If you were unable to attend the meeting, please let us know so that we can make sure to send you the information you missed. We are attaching an updated copy of the Cast Family Directory for you as it was noted that a name was missing. If you see any further corrections that need to be made, please let us know via email at

Please feel free to call me, text me or email me anytime with questions or concerns. It is best to text me if you know you will miss a rehearsal that wasn’t previously communicated to us via the conflict sheet in the registration packet.

Please double check the schedule below for the next two rehearsals.

In Christ,

Betty King

Director of C-MENT
