C-MENT Newsletter #1
May 3, 2016
Welcome to the C-MENT Summer 2016 Season!
As most of you know, I’m Betty King and I am the Director of C-MENT! This will be C-MENT’s 48th C-MENT production and I am so excited to be here! I have had the opportunity to watch some of you grow in so many ways over the years and I look forward to continue to do so in the years to come. For those of you who are new, I bid you welcome and look forward to getting to know you. I know that this show will be a blessing to all of us involved! A production of this magnitude requires a lot of work and support and prayers from all of us. I pray that God will guide all of us and help us make this a meaningful and spiritual experience.
I was so fortunate to have a terrific casting team helping me with the casting this season. Adele Buffington (Music Director), Cathy Pence (Assistant Director), and Janell Kosmatka (Choreographer) sat in on the auditions and call backs. You can all be very proud of yourselves. You all had terrific auditions! You were prepared, articulate and fun to watch. As always, casting a show is very difficult. With so many talented teens and never enough parts, it becomes an intricate puzzle of finding just the right fit for each cast member. We pray that you all will be happy with your parts and that you all will support the casting decisions made by the casting team and myself. I appreciate all of you and your support! We certainly have done our best.
You have brought home a folder that includes a script, a rehearsal schedule, a cast list and a pencil. The script is yours to keep. Please highlight your lines and start memorizing them with the goal of June 7 to be off-book. The sooner you have the lines memorized, the sooner we will be able to start working on your characters and blocking (movement on stage). You are to bring the sharpened pencil to each rehearsal with the script so that you may write down your blocking and take other notes as needed.
You have received a CD of the show music. Please practice your songs each day. You will receive your music in advance of the rehearsal when you will work on it. Use that as an opportunity to get a head start on the songs so that you are more familiar with them when you arrive at the following rehearsal. Highlighting your parts is also helpful and you might consider getting a 3-ring binder as there are several pieces to learn and manage.
Please take a moment to look at the rehearsal schedule and make sure you have recorded all the dates and times in your personal calendars. For example, the call time this Saturday, May 7 for everyone but Troy/Gabriella is 9:15 am and various groups are dismissed at various times—check the schedule for these important details. The schedule is to help you know what scene and song will be rehearsed on each day. Again, you should review the required pages and songs prior to coming to rehearsal so as to be better prepared. A performer who has his or her lines memorized will be better able to really start acting.
We will continue to email a newsletter to keep you informed about important details. The newsletters will cover props that we need, as well as special costumes and/or accessories you might need to bring. Check back here each week for further updates throughout the season.
Please be respectful of our church and church grounds. We trust that our C-MENT cast can be responsible and respectful of others and that you will not disrupt other meetings that are in session. Please don’t run around outside while waiting for rides. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
If you can’t make a rehearsal, please contact us. Please feel free to call me, text me or email me anytime with questions or concerns. I can be reached via email or by cell phone.
