It All Happened in the Country

C-MENT Newsletter #3

Oct. 19, 2018

Dear Cast Families,

Our season continues to go well as we move into the third week of rehearsals. Thanks to everyone for their dedication and effort.

DOORS

We are here to ensure the safety of all children at rehearsal. The front doors of the Sanctuary will always be locked except for the glass door on the far left of the front. If you can’t get in, text Betty King at 858/344-0115 or Cathy Pence at 858/922-2927. A chaperone or adult is on hand at all times to walk the children to the restroom so they do not go by themselves.

ACTING TIPS HOMEWORK

Do these in front of a mirror:

1.  Plant:  Stand with your feet comfortably apart, your arms at your sides, your hands open.

2.  Plant with expression:  Practice the following expressions while you are “planted” –happy, sad, surprised, angry, scared, and then pick one expression you want to practice. Think about your eyes as they are the first point of showing emotion.

3.  Walk with purpose and don’t wander when delivering lines. Practice saying your lines and singing in front of the mirror to see if you are moving with purpose or are wandering around.

4.  Articulate:  Speak clearly. Enunciate all consonants so the audience can understand you. This also means delivering your words at a pace or tempo that people can hear well. It’s very easy when we’re nervous to start speaking very quickly but then the audience won’t be able to keep up with what we’re actually saying!

CHOREOGRAPHY/MUSIC

So far we are on schedule with our choreography and music. Please remind each cast member that they are to practice their songs and dance at home as well as any lines. Miss Adele has told the cast to have the first three songs memorized by next Tuesday, October 23. They have been working ahead of schedule so this should be doable for everyone. ????

COSTUMES

A detailed costume needs letter complete with a photo will be coming soon from the Costume Team. After reading the letter, let us know if you have any questions as to the type of shoes you need or accessories you need to provide. Just text/ask Betty King.

DISCIPLINE

All of us always strive to make C-MENT a loving, nurturing environment. However, in the event that a child is having trouble paying attention or following directions, we will have the child sit with the Chaperone or call a parent in to help supervise.

MEMORIZATION

I want to applaud those cast members who have come to rehearsal with their lines and songs already memorized. It makes it so much easier to block scenes and teach choreography when the scripts are not in the way. Great job!

SATURDAY REHEARSAL THIS WEEK

There is a rehearsal this Saturday, 10/20 starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early so that we can start on time. Thank you!
